Gratitude is the Spirit of True Wealth

Mary L. Duwe, CPF, Master Coach

A common belief in the financial services industry is that we believe our wealth is caused by the amount we produce. Advisors are conditioned to believe the greater their production, the greater their wealth.  The risk in this belief is that it can distort the meaning of true wealth anddiminish the real power of gratitude.

Certainly there is a connection between accumulated wealth and the amount an advisor produces and saves. However, high production is only one factor in experiencing the feeling of being wealthy. I have spoken with many millionaires who feel they are never making or doing enough. Often their life is filled with an emptiness that money and/or production can not fill.

True wealth occurs when gratitude emerges. The power of gratitude is what allows someone with very little material wealth to share those meager belongings, and feel blessed that they were able to. True wealth comes from the heart, not a financial statement. Being grateful for what you have is the catalyst for true wealth.

Production is an honorable pursuit but it does not cause the experience of prosperity or true wealth.  This means working longer, harder and faster will not insure an abundant life. In fact the pursuit of increased production can actually decrease your ROL (returns on living).

The attainment of true wealth does not begin with production; it begins with gratitude for what you already have and your personal experience of knowing you have all that you need.

The visible signs of true wealth and abundance are when sharing occurs from the spirit of a grateful heart. A grateful and charitable heart is not just the key to abundance; it is the signature of true wealth.

Listed below are several qualities of true wealth.

Gratitude is the feeling of wealth. It is expressed with:

  • A generous heart
  • A forgiving spirit
  • A courageous life
  • A caring approach
  • A sincere dedication
  • A feeling of plenty
  • A charitable mindset

As you express feelings of gratitude more abundance manifests.

The path to wealth is to use and multiply what you have been given. It is expressed with:

  • A capacity to cultivate your gifts
  • A genuine satisfaction for what you have
  • A sense of harmony
  • A passionate heart
  • A creative energy
  • A desire to prosper
  • A knowing of infinite supply

As you multiply what you have been given you stop wasting vital energy looking elsewhere for abundance.

The attitude of wealth is humility. It is expressed with:

  • A humble heart
  • An inner sense of wealth
  • An abundant attitude
  • A desire to serve
  • A sense of enough
  • A knowing that all is well

When you have an attitude of wealth even with meager material possessions you can experience abundance, prosperity and wealth.

The action of wealth is ingenuity.  It is expressed with:

  • An expansive vision
  • An exploring mind
  • A gentle persistence
  • A creative approach
  • A desire to achieve
  • A passion for excellence
  • A capacity to contribute

When you take action it will lead you in the direction of your hearts true desire.

The confirmation of wealth is charity. It is expressed with:

  • A time to help others
  • A time to give back
  • A time to cultivate purpose
  • A time for conviction to a cause
  • A time to contribute
  • A time to give thanks
  • A time to celebrate accomplishments

True wealth occurs when you share it. As you share your wealth, it increases exponentially.

One of our greatest mistakes is the belief that our abundance and wealth is the direct result of what we can produce. True wealth is defined by our ability and capacity to express gratitude, live courageously, act with ingenuity and creativity and to give charitably.
